18000+ Severe Weather Reports in 2022

The Storm Prediction Center's latest tally shows there have been over 18,000 reports of severe weather this year through August 9. This includes 1,023 reports of tornadoes. Through July, it is 17,209 severe weather reports and 1,017 tornado reports.

In 2021, only 12,317 reports were sent in by the end of July. The entire year ended with 18,498 reports - this means 2022 is on its way to surpass 2021 by a wide margin. 

In terms of tornadoes, 840 tornado reports were sent in through July 2021. That puts 2022 well ahead of 2021 already, and certainly by year's end, it will probably near 1,500 in total.
