Report: New Study: 125 Degree Heat Indexes More Common by 2053

 A new study published by a non-profit organization on Monday shows that a belt of heat will develop over the next 30 years, stretching from Louisiana north to Chicago. This belt could have 1 to 3 days each year with heat indexes (real feel in the summer) of 125 degrees. 

18000+ Severe Weather Reports in 2022

The Storm Prediction Center's latest tally shows there have been over 18,000 reports of severe weather this year through August 9. This includes 1,023 reports of tornadoes. Through July, it is 17,209 severe weather reports and 1,017 tornado reports. In 2021, only 12,317 reports were sent in by the end of July. The entire year ended with 18,498 reports - this means 2022 is on its way to surpass 2021 by a wide margin.  In terms of tornadoes, 840 tornado reports were sent in through July 2021. That puts 2022 well ahead of 2021 already, and certainly by year's end, it will probably near 1,500 in total.

NOAA Reports 6th Hottest July on Record

July 2022 was the world’s sixth-hottest July on record, according to NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information. Last month also saw Earth’s sixth-hottest year to date on record as Antarctic sea ice coverage plunged to a record low for a second consecutive month.

 Showers are expected overnight, with a few periods of rain and drizzle between 12am and 6am. It won't be overly impactful.

Minor Shower Possible Tonight

 Data from this morning and early afternoon indicate a brief shower is possible tonight between 11pm and 3am. This would have little impact, with rain totals of just a few hundredths of an inch.

 Keep up the hydration out there! Temperatures are near 95 with real feels currently running at around 105 degrees. Steadily and consistently drinking fluids is key to maintaining proper hydration.

7:48pm Aug 8: Photos: Flooding PG County

 Flooding closed down roads in Prince George's County this afternoon following 3 inches of rain, especially near Riverdale. Multiple water rescues were performed, the fire department reported. No injuries were reported. 

2:48pm Monday August 8 - Happening Now: Flooding in PG County

HAPPENING NOW: Flash flooding is ongoing in northwestern Prince George's County. Prince Georges County Fire Department reported numerous motorists stranded in high water on Kenilworth Avenue in Riverdale (just outside of DC). Many places are receiving 3 inches of rain.
